AXPE increasingly involved in health and healthcare projects.

The healthcare sector is undergoing rapid digital transformation, with an unprecedented demand for technological solutions. This has provided AXPE Consulting with the opportunity to contribute through highly specialized technical expertise. From tumor tissue segmentation in medical imaging to Alzheimer’s detection using accelerometer data, the Data & AI Cluster is developing various predictive modeling tools for the industry.

In collaboration with the University of Cantabria, we are developing an algorithm to predict the stage of Alzheimer’s disease in patients. The process begins with collecting temporal movement data from a smartphone’s accelerometer using an application developed by the university. This data undergoes preprocessing to standardize sequence length and time intervals between samples. The processed data is then fed into a convolutional neural network, which predicts the disease stage—early, middle, or late. These predictions are sent to a dashboard, where doctors can access patient data, assist in diagnosis, and propose the best treatment plan for early intervention.

Other ongoing projects include tumor tissue detection in brain MRI scans, automatic disease coding through natural language processing (NLP), and real-time gesture detection for diagnosing apraxia.

Under the leadership of Gema Atienza, the Data & AI Cluster approaches these new opportunities with enthusiasm, working daily to bring transformative advancements that enhance the efficiency and quality of healthcare.
